If there is one piece of skincare advice that every dermatologist and cosmetic nurse agrees on, it is this: wear sunscreen every day. Ultraviolet radiation is the number one cause of premature ageing, responsible for up to 80% of visible skin changes including fine lines, pigmentation, and loss of elasticity.
A broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen protects against both UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. Apply it as the last step of your morning routine, after moisturiser and before makeup. Most people underapply — you need approximately half a teaspoon for your face and neck alone.
Look for formulas that suit your skin type: lightweight fluids for oily skin, hydrating creams for dry skin, and tinted zinc options for sensitive or post-treatment skin. Reapply every two hours if you are outdoors, and remember that UV exposure occurs even on overcast days and through car windows.
